WorkSafe urges employers to take necessary measures to shield workers from dangers posed by asbestos exposure

OHS Daily News

This week is Asbestos Awareness Week 2024 in New Zealand (November 18-24), and WorkSafe New Zealand is reminding employers of their obligation to protect workers from asbestos exposure without exception.

According to the occupational health and safety regulator, asbestos exposure is the leading cause of workplace fatalities in New Zealand.

WorkSafe says that, although the severe health dangers of asbestos exposure have been recognised for more than 80 years, roughly 220 people lose their lives each year due to diseases linked to asbestos.
