WorkSafe Tasmania cautions about dangers of fryrock

OHS Daily News

WorkSafe Tasmania has recently released a safety alert to caution shotfirers and individuals handling explosives about the dangers of flyrock.

Flyrock is produced when chunks of rock are propelled away from the explosion site due to the power generated by the explosives.

According to the workplace safety regulator, numerous flyrock incidents have taken place in Tasmania.

In one instance, a considerable volume of flyrock from a quarry detonation was thrown several hundred meters from the explosion site, resulting in injuries to individuals and destruction of property.

Shotfirers and individuals handling explosives are strongly advised by WorkSafe Tasmania to reassess and adjust their control measures for managing flyrock risks.
