WorkSafe says workplace tragedies affect everyone equally
WorkSafe reminds Victorians that any workplace fatality is unacceptable, following the tragic loss of 50 lives in 2024.
Last year, the transport, construction, and agriculture sectors emerged as the most hazardous, yet workplace fatalities were recorded across over fifty percent of all industries, affecting a wide array of professions, according to data from the safety watchdog.
WorkSafe Executive Director Health and Safety Sam Jenkin said the toll serves as a reminder that every workplace is vulnerable to potential tragedies, underscoring the importance of vigilance among both employers and employees.
"Victoria is among the safest places to work in the world, but it is simply unacceptable that lives are still being lost in what are entirely preventable workplace incidents," Mr Jenkin said.
"No family should suffer the devastation of losing a loved one at work, and we remain unyielding in our commitment to working towards a future of zero workplace deaths."
WorkSafe data shows the fatalities from last year were fewer than the 2023 workplace death toll, which is now at 73.
