WorkSafe issues safety reminder as electric vehicle use increases
The growth in electric vehicle use has prompted WorkSafe Victoria to remind employers to provide adequate training and supervision to workers to enable them to work safely.
The safety watchdog issued the reminder after the new federal Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme took effect at the beginning of this month.
WorkSafe Executive Director Health and Safety Narelle Beer said, "With the popularity of electric vehicles increasing, demand for repair and maintenance work is also expected to rise – yet many mechanics may not have training or experience working with these systems."
"Electric vehicles contain large battery arrays that can be extremely dangerous if not worked on safely."
Under the scheme, trained motor vehicle repairers will have fair access to the information they need to service and repair cars.
