WorkSafe examining safety procedures at waste and recycling sites

OHS Daily News

WorkSafe has launched a proactive inspection program aimed at addressing safety concerns within waste and recycling facilities in Western Australia.

The inspection initiative will examine various randomly chosen establishments in both urban and rural areas of the State during the financial year 2024/25.

WorkSafe said inspectors will assess various aspects, including waste treatment, remediation, and the services related to material recovery and disposal.

According to WorkSafe Commissioner Sally North, the proactive inspection program is designed to help employers in the waste and recycling sector meet their obligations for ensuring the health and safety of their employees.

“The primary goal of our proactive programs is to provide information and to collaboratively work towards a reduction in work-related injuries and illnesses in the industry sectors we target,” Ms North said.
