WorkSafe encourages Victorians to explore engineered stone options
Victoria’s workplace health and safety regulator says the State will maintain its commitment to prioritising worker safety when a nationwide ban on using engineered stone is implemented.
According to WorkSafe, effective July 1st, Victorian employers will be prohibited from performing tasks related to the production, distribution, processing, or installation of engineered stone benchtops, panels, and slabs. Considering the current risk faced by workers in Victoria, it has been concluded that a transitional period will not be implemented.
Consequently, regardless of any pre-existing contracts, the installation of engineered stone benchtops, panels, or slabs will not be permitted in Victorian premises once the ban is enforced, the safety watchdog says in a media statement.
