WorkSafe charges horticulture company over worker’s fatal fall

WorkSafe has filed charges against a Monbulk horticulture company in relation to a tragic incident where a worker fell through a shed roof and sustained fatal head injuries in June 2022.

The charges, brought under section 21(1) of the OHS Act, accuse the company of failing to provide and maintain a safe working environment.

WorkSafe also alleges that the company violated regulation 327(1) of the same Act by engaging in high-risk construction work without a safe work method statement (SWMS).

These charges are in connection with the unfortunate death of a 66-year-old maintenance worker who fell through fragile roofing while attempting to replace it.

The case is set for a filing hearing at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 28 February 2024.
