WorkSafe advises employers to protect workers from lead exposure

OHS Daily News

WorkSafe reminds workplaces to manage the risks linked to the removal of lead-based paint.

“Lead-based paint, commonly used on many pre-1970s buildings and structures, can contain lead levels greater than 1%,” WorkSafe Victoria states.

The safety watchdog says it has found employers and self-employed workers involved in unsafe methods of lead-based paint removal.

Employers have a legal responsibility to mitigate any risks related to lead exposure to the extent that it is reasonably practicable.

Similarly, employees hold a fundamental responsibility to take reasonable precautions for their own health and safety. Additionally, they are required to collaborate with their employer in initiatives aimed at ensuring a safe working environment.
