Worker fatally struck by falling gate at Melbourne depot

WorkSafe is conducting an investigation into the fatality of a truckie who was fatally injured while trying to close a gate at a depot in Melbourne last week.

WorkSafe said the 57-year-old man was exiting the depot at the conclusion of his shift when the 8m-wide gate malfunctioned, lost its stability, and collapsed onto him. He was discovered by another worker at around 11:45pm.

The recent fatal incident has increased the count of workplace fatalities in Victoria to 14, a decrease of seven compared to the same period last year.
