Worker burned in Southland boiler incident

A worker is being treated for serious burns in hospital after a boiler incident in Southland.

The person was burned while working on a boiler on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident just before 11 pm.

A spokesperson for St John Ambulance said a rescue chopper was tasked to Edendale at about 10.43 pm.

The rescue chopper transported the injured worker to Christchurch hospital in a serious condition.

WorkSafe inspectors visited the scene soon after the incident.
