Woman injured in gardening incident flown to hospital

An elderly woman sustained serious neck injuries in a gardening incident in south-east Queensland.

The woman in her 80s fell onto a garden stake while working on her property in the Fraser Coast region on Tuesday afternoon.

She was impaled on the neck by the garden tool.

Paramedics took her to hospital but doctors were unable to remove the metal bar.

The woman was later airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for specialist treatment.
