West Auckland bakery fined after workers' hands injured by machinery
A West Auckland bakery has been fined $36,000 after two workers suffered serious hand injuries in two separate incidents.
In January 2021, a worker lost four fingers after her hand got stuck in a machine. And in a separate incident later that year, a worker lost part of her finger while using a dough-dividing machine.
WorkSafe's area investigation manager, Danielle Henry said, "Both of these incidents were entirely avoidable, but to harm a second worker is nothing short of reprehensible when the company was already on notice of the harm that deficient machine guarding can cause."
The company was fined at Waitakere District Court on Wednesday.
