Waste management firm avoids legal action after Comcare approves WHS Undertaking
A waste management company will dedicate over $900,000 to implement safety measures across its operations nationwide following a serious injury incident involving a worker in Canberra.
The firm has agreed to a WHS Undertaking endorsed by Comcare, which will allow the company to carry out a range of initiatives in the next two years, thereby avoiding prosecution under the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).
The General Manager of Regulatory Operations at Comcare, Justin Napier, said the WHS Undertaking would reinforce safety systems and lead to better outcomes.
"The initiatives set out in the legally binding undertaking are tangible, measurable and achievable," Mr Napier said.
"This is an appropriate enforcement outcome that will deliver benefits to workplaces, the waste management industry and the community."
