Waste management company facing trial after Canberra workplace incident
A waste management company faces a fine of up to $1.5 million after a worker sustained ‘multiple fractures and lacerations’ to his fingers in a workplace incident in Canberra two years ago.
The company faces a single charge under Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) for failing to provide adequate training and a safe system of work for employees.
The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions charged the company after a maintenance worker got his hand trapped in machinery at the company’s Hume depot on 4 June 2021.
The case will be mentioned at the ACT Magistrates Court on 20 July 2023.
