WA workplaces encouraged to establish contingency plans in preparation for cyclones
WorkSafe Commissioner Sally North says it is essential for all individuals, whether at sea or on land, to implement and maintain safe work systems in preparation for an approaching cyclone.
Ms. North said it is imperative for employers to have robust plans established and to provide necessary training to employees to protect all personnel in the workplace during a cyclone threat.
“Employers should not leave anything to chance when a cyclone is threatening and must make sure safe work practices are in place well before a cyclone is in their vicinity,” Ms North said.
“Whether the workplace is a fishing vessel or in a land-based location, everyone should be trained in the cyclone contingency plan and follow all instructions given when a cyclone is approaching.”
