Victorian building regulator charged over suicide death
WorkSafe Victoria announced on Thursday it has filed charges against the state’s building regulator following the death of one of its employees.
The safety agency has accused the regulator of breaching workplace health and safety regulations after an inspector took their own life in May 2022.
The regulator faces two charges under the OHS Act for allegedly endangering the life of another person at a workplace and failing to provide a safe work environment.
The safety watchdog alleges the building regulator breached section 21(2) (a) of the OHS Act by “failing to provide and maintain an adequate system of work to reduce the risk of workplace related stress and psychological injury, including anxiety and depression.”
The regulator is scheduled to appear in court next month.
