Victoria power station operator fined $1.5m over workplace fatality

A Victorian power station operator has been fined $1.5 million after a worker was fatally burned in an explosion four years ago.

During the incident in November 2018, a 54-year-old man was installing a circuit breaker when an explosion occurred. He sustained severe burns and died in hospital the following day.

The company plead guilty to three counts of breaching the Victorian OHS Act and was sentenced in the Melbourne County Court on Monday.

In a statement, the company said it had put in place safety procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
