VIC mechanic faces charges after deadly garbage truck incident

WorkSafe has brought charges against a diesel mechanic after a worker was killed by the garbage truck he was driving in June 2023.

The 26-year-old man was positioned adjacent to the garbage truck when it moved forward, trapping him against a post and the wall of a building in Melbourne's Central Business District.

The company is confronted with a single accusation under section 23(1) of the OHS Act for not safeguarding individuals who are not employees from potential health and safety hazards.
