Vic employers urged to protect workers from amputation injuries

WorkSafe reminds employers to ensure machines have adequate safeguards to minimise the risk of amputation injuries.

WorkSafe data shows more than 150 body parts were amputated in 2022. The safety regulator accepted 137 claims for amputation injuries during the same period.

The manufacturing industry accounted for nearly half of all amputation claims in 2022. The statistics reveal that labourers filed a total of 51 workers' compensation claims in 2022, tradies 37, while production and transport workers filed 31 claims.
