VIC company to invest $293,000 in enhancing health and safety measures following worker's leg injury

A Victorian cold chain logistics business has pledged to invest almost $300,000 to improve health and safety standards in response to an incident where a worker's leg was trapped in a conveyor belt and crushed by a pallet.

The Werribee Magistrates' Court was recently informed that the company had agreed to an Enforceable Undertaking after being charged with not ensuring safe equipment, work procedures, and necessary guidance.

WorkSafe Executive Director Health and Safety Sam Jenk urged duty holders to fulfill their responsibility to ensure the safety of workers who are operating or in proximity to machinery.

"Working around machinery is often high risk and it's critical that duty holders not only ensure that plant and systems for using it are safe, but that all workers have the training, instruction and supervision needed to reduce these risks," Mr Jenkin said.
