UMM campaign motivates young people to prioritise workplace safety

WorkSafe Victoria has started a campaign encouraging young workers to report safety concerns.

The UMM character, inspired by the expression we use when in doubt, will be showcased in a new series of WorkSafe videos, social media posts, regional newspapers, and digital communications.

The videos feature UMM addressing various dangerous situations that young workers may encounter.

Over the past year, a total of 3,501 Victorian workers under the age of 25 have sustained serious work-related injuries.

WorkSafe Executive Director Health and Safety Narelle Beer said the UMM character was made by youths, for youths, and resonates with newly employed workers.

"We all know what a great asset young workers can be, but sometimes the enthusiasm and energy they can bring to a role may mean they are less likely to ask questions if something doesn’t seem right," Dr Beer said.
