Truckie killed by hay bale in northern Victoria

WorkSafe has launched an investigation into the fatal incident involving a 48-year-old truckie on a farm in northern Victoria on Thursday morning.

The workplace safety authority said that a tractor was employed to remove hay bales from a trailer in Toolleen when one of the bales became loose and dropped three metres onto the man at about 11:20am.

The recent incident represents the 12th confirmed workplace death in 2025, according to WorkSafe data. In contrast, there were 19 on-the-job fatalities during the corresponding timeframe last year.
