Tasmania strengthens assistance for workers and families impacted by asbestos
The Tasmanian Government has announced it will enhance assistance for workers and their families affected by illnesses caused by asbestos exposure.
The Minister for Small Business and Consumer Affairs, Madeleine Ogilvie, conveyed her satisfaction with the recent approval of amendments to the Asbestos-Related Diseases (Occupational Exposure) Compensation Act 2011, which were successfully passed in the House of Assembly.
"Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is about taking action, right now, on issues affecting Tasmanians, including the health and safety of all Tasmanians," said Minister Ogilvie.
"The Asbestos Compensation Scheme, established in 2011, has been a crucial resource for those suffering from diseases linked to asbestos exposure in the workplace.”
