Sydney transport company fined over work injury

A Sydney transport company has been fined $210,000 after a truck driver was seriously injured in a workplace incident in September 2019.

The company was fined in the District Court of New South Wales after pleading guilty to one charge of failing to ensure as far as reasonably practicable the health and safety of workers.

The truck driver was unloading steel pipes weighing about 720 kilograms when they fell from the back of a flatbed trailer and struck him, severing part of his leg.

Department of Customer Service BRD Investigations and Enforcement Executive Director Valerie Griswold said NSW employers must prioritise safety to prevent workplace injuries.
