State safety authorities to conduct construction safety blitz in the Albury-Wodonga region

Inspectors from WorkSafe Victoria and SafeWork NSW will visit construction sites in the Albury-Wodonga region to ensure employers are complying with fall protection and silica dust regulations.

The weeklong safety blitz runs from 27 March to 31 March.

Falls from height are a major cause of occupational deaths and injuries in the construction industry, according to WorkSafe Victoria.

Statistics show 14 Victorian workers and 16 NSW workers have died following a fall from height in the last five years.

WorkSafe Director of Construction and Earth Resources Matt Wielgosz said "workers are still dying from falls and silicosis."

"We don't want to wait for another tragedy," he said. "We want to help you identify and address safety hazards before it’s too late. Workplace safety should never be an afterthought."

Additional information is available on the WorkSafe Victoria website.
