Sliding gate falls on Northern Territory worker

A NT worker was seriously injured after a sliding gate fell on him late last month.

The worker was closing the nine-metre-wide gate manually sliding it when the incident occurred.

NT WorkSafe said initial investigations show component failures may have led to the incident.

NT WorkSafe said, “the gate motor wasn’t powered due to an issue with the solar panel, requiring the gate to be manually operated.”

“The guide block which held the sliding gate upright as it opens and closes, was also found broken at the scene.”

NT WorkSafe reminds all workplaces with motorised sliding gates to ensure they are well maintained and repaired per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
