Shepparton company sentenced following blast that injured six employees

A recycling business has received a conviction and a $35,000 fine after an explosion involving aerosol gas at its Shepparton site injured six workers.

The company was recently convicted in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court after previously admitting guilt to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and one count under the Dangerous Goods Act.

The company incurred a penalty of $30,000 for not ensuring a safe working environment and an additional $5,000 for violating Dangerous Goods Regulations by neglecting to educate employees about the hazards and characteristics of dangerous materials present in the workplace.

Additionally, the company was required to pay $5,292 in associated costs.
