SafeWork symposium to address critical issues in the construction industry

OHS Daily News

SafeWork has recently launched its second biennial Building and Construction Symposium in Parramatta, setting the stage for seven regional roadshow events that are planned for September and October.

The symposium unites industry and government officials to work together on key health and safety issues affecting the NSW construction industry.

SafeWork has indicated that a significant priority will be the ongoing problem of construction workers experiencing falls from heights.

During the financial year 2023/24, the safety regulator has levied fines amounting to one million dollars regarding the oversight of workers operating at elevated levels.

The symposium will visit Newcastle, Port Macquarie, and Ballina in September, and Merimbula, Wollongong, Albury, and Dubbo in October.

Head of SafeWork NSW Trent Curtin said the event will concentrate on keeping workers safe and reducing costs for businesses through work health and safety strategies.
