SafeWork safety campaign focuses on construction sites on the Central Coast

The NSW Government is launching a safety initiative on the Central Coast by inspecting construction sites to ensure worker safety.

The primary concern SafeWork inspectors will address is falls from heights, as this remains the top cause of significant injuries reported on construction sites.

Statistics indicate NSW has recorded over 5,200 incidents of injuries due to falls from heights since 2021/2022, with the most frequent types being damage to ligaments, muscles, tendons, and traumatic joint injuries.

Regarding the blitz, Minister for Work Health and Safety Sophie Cotsis emphasised the necessity for employers to comprehend their responsibilities under work health and safety legislation.

“SafeWork inspectors take a zero-tolerance approach to workers’ lives being placed at risk and will issue on-the-spot fines to enforce compliance,” she said.

“All workers have the right to go to work and return home safely to their loved ones at the end of their workday.”
