SafeWork SA suspends asbestos removal licence over compliance failures

SafeWork SA has suspended a class B asbestos removal licence after the licence holder breached asbestos regulations.

The asbestos removalist and demolition contractor failed to identify the presence of asbestos in a building before demolition, according to the safety agency.

SafeWork SA Executive Director Glenn Farrell said the licence holder failed to ensure the safe removal of asbestos.

‘This contractor’s failure as a licensed asbestos removalist required such a sanction and should be seen as a warning to any other business who fall short of ensuring the health and safety of their workers and members of the public is not put at risk,’ he said.
