SafeWork SA issues carbon monoxide safety alert
SafeWork SA is cautioning workplaces about the hazards associated with the use of fuel-powered vehicles and machinery in indoor settings following a series of recent carbon monoxide poisoning incidents, one of which resulted in a workplace fatality.
According to SafeWork SA, using forklifts and equipment in confined spaces like warehouses, workshops, factories, mines, and sports venues can be dangerous due to high levels of carbon monoxide that can accumulate without proper ventilation.
"A person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) has a duty to ensure workers are not exposed to carbon monoxide levels exceeding the workplace exposure standard of 30ppm (averaged over an eight-hour work shift)," SafeWork SA said.
