SafeWork SA advises businesses to exercise caution in light of an increase in machine guarding notices
An increase in reports of safety violations related to machine guarding has prompted SafeWork SA to deliver a safety warning to workplaces.
During the initial four weeks of the 2024/25 fiscal year, SafeWork SA has issued a total of 29 notices for this specific violation, a stark contrast to the 120 issued throughout the preceding fiscal year.
SafeWork SA says machine guarding is necessary to safeguard workers from dangers like moving components, airborne debris, and ejected materials.
The safety regulatory authority advises companies that turning off safety features, including machine interlocks and eliminating guards, may result in grave outcomes and represents a serious infringement of workplace health and safety regulations.
