SafeWork NSW crackdown focuses on construction sites in the Hunter region
Last week, SafeWork NSW inspectors intensified their efforts on construction sites across the Hunter region, making sure businesses comply with safety regulations and prioritise worker safety, particularly concerning falls from heights, electrical work, machinery operation, and mental health issues.
The inspectors visited construction sites in Cessnock, Singleton, Port Stephens, Dungog, Muswellbrook, MidCoast and Newcastle.
SafeWork reported that a targeted initiative in the inner-city Newcastle area earlier this year tackled significant safety issues and led to prompt enhancements across various sites.
The safety regulator said it is extending its inspection initiatives across the Hunter to elevate industry awareness and compliance, ensuring safer working conditions for all construction workers, regardless of their geographical locations.
SafeWork NSW Acting Deputy Secretary Trent Curtin said, “Our recent compliance activities in the Newcastle area generated 95 improvement notices which is far too many and we are hoping other areas across the Hunter will have increased health and safety as a priority on construction sites."
