SafeWork launches campaign to protect retail workers from extreme heat

SafeWork SA will launch a campaign this summer aimed at ensuring the safety of retail workers against the risks posed by extreme heat.

Over 100 retail establishments will undergo audits throughout the campaign to verify compliance and to inform both employers and employees about the risks associated with working in high-temperature environments.

SafeWork SA says the campaign will prioritise the implementation of safe operational procedures to lessen the risks associated with the three principal causes of heat stress: dehydration, ultraviolet radiation, and fatigue induced by heat.

SafeWork SA Executive Director Glenn Farrell said while the summer months are a peak season for many retailers, they also lead to an increased risk of heat stress for their workforce.
