SafeWork NSW inspectors are actively carrying out a targeted compliance operation across the state to decrease workplace injuries related to mobile plant, fixed machinery, and vehicles. So far, they have issued over 140 notices.

The majority of notices issued thus far pertain to forklift safety, addressing risk management issues such as the separation of pedestrians, the prevention of rollovers and collisions, and the maintenance and inspection of equipment.

According to SafeWork NSW, the critical risks being prioritised consist of ensuring a safe separation between workers and machinery, limiting access to moving elements, preventing rollover incidents, and confirming that proper training and licensing are in place.

Trent Curtin, the Head of SafeWork NSW, points out that being struck by moving machinery or vehicles, as well as sustaining injuries while working with stationary machinery, are avoidable risks that are evident throughout our State and in all industries.

“SafeWork NSW inspectors will educate workplaces they visit regarding safe practices but will not accept workers’ lives being placed at risk, and can issue on-the-spot fines for serious safety breaches,”  Trent said.
