SafeWork campaign aims to prevent fall from height injuries in construction

SafeWork NSW has launched a 12-month campaign to reduce falls in the construction industry.

The campaign comes after a judge voiced concern over the high number of serious ‘fall from height’ incidents in the construction industry.

Falls from heights is the leading cause of fatal injury on NSW construction sites. SafeWork data shows there were 16 falls from height deaths between 2018 and 2022.

During the campaign, SafeWork inspectors will visit construction sites to ensure workplaces comply with occupational health and safety regulations. They will also train workers and employers about fall protection.

Minister for Work Health and Safety Sophie Cotsis said everyone including unions and employers have a role to play when it comes to workplace safety.

Head of SafeWork NSW Natasha Mann said nearly half of all injuries in the construction industry are caused by falls from height.
