Safety warning issued after SA mine worker sustains serious injuries

An underground mine worker has been seriously injured while installing a dewatering pump in South Australia.

The incident prompted SafeWork SA to issue a safety warning to mine operators to “develop, implement and maintain safe systems of work.”

“While tramming forward, it is believed that the Jumbo ran over the dewatering pump line hose, causing the hose connection to fail on the pump,” SafeWork SA said on Monday.

“The hose connection has consequently flung back under pressure and struck a worker standing near the rear of the Jumbo, causing serious facial injuries.”

One mine worker has died on the job this year, according to Safe Work Australia figures.
