The NSW Resources Regulator advises miners that starting 1 October 2025, all persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must register workers engaged in high-risk processes involving crystalline silica substances, as mandated by the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017.

The regulator says this regulation is applicable to all metal mines and quarries in New South Wales. Operators of mines and PCBUs must submit worker details to SafeWork NSW by the deadline of 1 October 2025.

“PCBUs that are covered by “Coal Services Order 43 Health Surveillance” are exempt from the requirement and do not need to comply,” the regulator stated.
