Safety alert issued after Queensland worker was struck by an excavator bucket

A safety alert has been issued after a Queensland construction worker was struck by an excavator bucket in November 2022.

WorkSafe said "the excavator was operating near the worker when, for reasons yet to be established, its bucket unexpectedly detached from a quick-hitch on the dipper arm, striking him.”

To prevent similar incidents, WorkSafe says employers should implement a safe system of work to minimise risks associated with mobile plant.

They should also ensure mobile plant operators are adequately trained to reduce the risk of work-related injuries.
