Safe Work Australia is creating a model Code of Practice (model Code) that offers practical advice to employers on managing the risks associated with biological hazards in the workplace.

According to Safe Work Australia, biological hazards, including viruses, bacteria, parasites, and certain types of fungi (such as mould), are present across all industries.

The proposed model Code is extensive in scope and aims to be relevant to all workplaces that pose a risk of exposure to biological hazards for both workers and others.

“To support further development, we are seeking a wide range of views on the draft model Code through public consultation,” Safe Work Australia said.

“Safe Work Australia welcomes submissions from all interested stakeholders, including duty holders, regulators, government agencies, unions, workers, legal professionals, researchers, employer representatives, employers, members of the public and other parties.”
