Safe Work Australia is looking for suggestions on how to better the safety of crane operations in the maritime industry.

Safe Work Australia said cranes that operate in dynamic environments, like those found on vessels, encounter specific work health and safety (WHS) issues stemming from ship movement and changing maritime conditions.

“Despite these risks, they are often used without specific licensing, training, and risk controls tailored to these environments,” Safe Work Australia stated.

“We’re inviting stakeholders to share their views on potential reform options outlined in our discussion paper, available on the Consultation Hub.”

The safety agency calls upon those with an interest or expertise in the port and maritime fields and crane operations to provide their feedback in this consultation process.
