Safe Work Australia invites comments on Asbestos Framework Review

Safe Work Australia is seeking input on the Asbestos Framework Review, which is assessing ways to enhance the model WHS framework to more effectively manage risks and facilitate the prioritised elimination of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).

The review will analyse the WHS model laws, which include regulations, codes of practice, and guidance, and it directly assists Safe Work Australia in meeting its responsibilities as per the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency’s Asbestos National Strategic Plan (ANSP).

“Strengthening national asbestos controls is a key ANSP priority aimed at reducing asbestos exposure and preventing future asbestos-related disease,” says Safe Work Australia.

“We welcome feedback from anyone with an interest in asbestos management.”

The consultation period extends until 11:59 PM (AEST) on Sunday, April 26, 2026.
