Rise in vehicle-related incidents at NSW mining sites leads to safety notice

OHS Daily News

The NSW Resources Regulator has published a safety bulletin following a recent rise in vehicle interaction incidents at mining sites across the State.

In the last six months, the Regulator has received notifications regarding 46 vehicle interaction incidents, indicating a rising trend across all sectors of the mining industry in the State.

According to the Regulator, among the notifications received, 45% were attributed to surface coal mines, 26% to surface metalliferous and quarry operations, while 32% were reported from both underground coal and metalliferous mines.

“A review of these incidents indicated that the predominant causes have been a lack of or inadequate communication between people involved in the incidents and a lack of situational awareness on the part of operators of equipment involved in the incidents,” the Regulator states.

The safety bulletin can be found here.
