OHS Daily News

Queensland workplaces are being urged to participate in National Safe Work Month in October with the objective of preserving lives and decreasing the financial burden of occupational injuries and illnesses.

The most recent national data indicates that Queensland experienced 51 workplace deaths in 2023. Among these incidents, 39 were classified under work health and safety or electrical safety regulations.

According to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, the predominant age group for fatalities was 35 to 54 years. Of these incidents, thirty-five were related to vehicles. The occupations with the highest fatality rates were machinery operators and drivers.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) provides an array of resources, guidelines, and practical tools designed to assist Queensland businesses in establishing safe and healthy work environments that are devoid of both physical and psychological hazards.
