Queensland resources companies limit FIFO travel to curb COVID-19 spread

Queensland resources companies will continue to limit non-essential FIFO travel until January 22 despite a three-day lockdown being lifted in Brisbane.

Queensland Resources Council (QRC) Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said 60 percent fewer workers will be travelling to regional Queensland this week, falling from the usual 3,500 people to under 1500.

Mr. Macfarlane said the resources sector will do everything possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The mining industry is regarded as essential, with eligible FIFO workers allowed to travel within Queensland and interstate in line with previously agreed strict protocols.
