Queensland initiates campaign to decrease severe workplace injuries and deaths

OHS Daily News

The Queensland Government has unveiled a safety campaign designed to bolster safety outcomes in key sectors, including construction, manufacturing, healthcare, and social assistance.

The State Government says each person holds the duty to create a safe workplace and any missteps in this area can result in serious emotional, physical, mental, and financial consequences for workers and the broader industry.

According to statistics, Queensland recorded 39 fatalities in the workplace in 2023. In the financial year 2023/24, the courts levied more than $6.8 million in fines against individuals and businesses throughout the state, resulting from prosecutions by the independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor.

Between July and October, Workplace Health and Safety (WHSQ) inspectors will be carrying out safety audits at Queensland businesses to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
