Quad bike fatalities trigger safety warning in South Australia

SafeWork SA is alerting those who are contemplating riding quad bikes and side-by-side vehicles this summer to the hazards, in light of a rise in fatalities in the previous two years.

According to data from Safe Work Australia, 234 Australians have lost their lives in incidents related to quad bikes and side-by-side vehicles since 2011, with over 80 percent of the victims being men.

In South Australia, there have been a total of seven fatalities recorded in 2024 and 2025, representing the first fatalities in the state since 2021. Most of the fatalities over the last two years were among farm workers.

According to SafeWork SA, quad bikes rank among the top causes of injuries and fatalities on Australian farms, with deaths happening at comparable rates during both occupational and recreational use.
