Week 2 of National Safe Work Month focuses on recognising workplace psychosocial hazards and risk management strategies
During the second week of National Safe Work Month, which includes World Mental Health Day on October 10, Safe Work Australia is conducting an in-depth analysis of psychosocial hazards present in the workplace and the methods for mitigating associated risks.
Safe Work Australia says it has reported a rise in workers' compensation claims associated with injuries stemming from psychosocial hazards in the workplace.
Data from Safe Work Australia reveals that in the years 2021-22, serious claims associated with mental health conditions accounted for a total of 584,029 weeks of lost work time.
“Employers and organisations must eliminate or minimise psychosocial risks so far as is reasonably practicable,” Safe Work Australia said.
“You must apply the same risk management process you use to manage physical hazards and risks in consultation with your workers.”
