Pilot dies after helicopter crashes while fighting bushfires in northern Tasmania

A pilot has died after his helicopter crashed while fighting bushfires in northern Tasmania Monday afternoon.

Police and emergency services were called to the scene about 3.20pm following reports of a plane crash.

The 41-year-old man, the plane's sole occupant, died at the scene.

Police said the helicopter crashed into a paddock near Pipers Brook.

The Australian Safety Transport Bureau has been notified of the incident.
