Otago company charged over truck drivers death
WorkSafe NZ has charged an Otago-based company after a truck driver was fatally injured in a workplace incident more than six years ago.
The company faces two charges under the Health and Safety at Work Act after the man was struck by a front end loader in Bluff on February 24, 2017.
New Zealand’s workplace safety regulator accuses the company of failing to ensure the safety of an employee and failing to liaise with PCBU.
The Invercargill District Court was told that the company should have taken measures to protect workers.
WorkSafe said the company’s safety procedures were “overly dependent on administrative controls”.
